For individuals requiring manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, orthotics, or other durable medical equipment (DME).

We provide evaluations to assist in determining which type of equipment and accessories will be most medically appropriate for your situation. After evaluation, we provide prescriptions to vendors who will further assist you in obtaining your prescribed DME.

Chronic migraine care usually begins with your Primary Care Provider (PCP). If you’ve tried two preventive and two abortive medications from different drug classes under your PCP’s guidance without improvement, you may qualify for Botox treatment. Insurance typically requires proof of these four failed medications and an average of 15 migraines per month for coverage. We provide comprehensive care for joint injuries, sports, work-related, or otherwise, for patients of all ages. Common conditions include osteoarthritis, tendonitis, sprains, and strains. Our services include in-office diagnostic ultrasound, ultrasound-guided steroid injections, and orthotic prescriptions for improved hand or foot function. We also coordinate with local rehabilitation services and can provide referrals to orthopedic surgeons when surgery may be needed.

We perform nerve and muscle function tests through Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) and Electromyogram (EMG). Nerve testing is for individuals concerned about potential nerve conditions such as: carpal tunnel syndrome, radiculopathy, or peripheral neuropathy. This test helps identify if a) there is a nerve problem, b) which nerve is involved, c) what part of that nerve has been affected, and d) the severity of the nerve dysfunction. The EMG test involves a small needle with an electrode that allows us to hear and see how your muscles and nerves are working. In some cases, diagnostic ultrasound is used to obtain images of certain peripheral nerves to help aid in the diagnosis of more serious nerve conditions.

Spasticity is a neurologic condition causing excessive muscle tightness that affects limb movement and positioning. It can result from Stroke, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, or Multiple Sclerosis.

We treat spasticity using botulinum toxin injections such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin to relax overactive muscles. These treatments also help manage cervical dystonia, a condition that causes neck tremors or abnormal neck postures.

We provide medical care for individuals with upper or lower limb amputations and congenital limb loss. After evaluating your functional needs, we issue a prosthetic prescription for your Prosthetist or refer you to a trusted local provider. With Dr. Shurtz’s prescription, your Prosthetist can work with your insurance to determine coverage and options for your prosthetic.
Once fitted, we offer ongoing collaborative care for adjustments or modifications as needed. We also address common amputee-related issues such as residual limb skin problems, infections, sweating, phantom limb pain, and hip or back pain.
